- I was not familiar with the key box system and it was only when a local intervened to help me that I finally got access to the property. I made several fruitless attempts to contact the owners. For the benefit of those not familiar with the French key box system, could I suggest that a detailed explanation of how it works would help to prevent the frustration I experienced. − Worse ever experience on booking.com… FIRST : After the unit booking confirmation receipt at 11:30pm for the same night, the property owner never sent any information on how to get the key, never sent the key box code. Unreachable on his mobile phone, he did not either answer email or sms (even by now). I have been waiting at 1am in front of the door for almost one hour struggling to try to contact him without success and without any way to enter the booked (confirmed) premise. No way to know the code for the key box. SECOND : Called customer service from booking.con which has been the worse ever customer service experience too at 1:30am … instead of trying to solve the issue, the booking.com customer service representative “John Jay Z” has been trying to put the blame on me arguing I arrived too late, lying on check-in terms and condition and refusing to listen to the issues and failure of the property owner. All this at 1:30am on a strangled customer who cannot access his booked premise… Next two calls to booking.com (till 4am) were better : although not able to solve the issue, they at least acknowledged the property owner failures, cancelled the booking at no cost and provided a tiny compensation as a gesture but failed to find another booking… At 4am my daughter and I had finally no other option than sleeping in the car in a quite cold night.
