+ Note I stayed at the sister residence chudleigh house in the centre due to building work at exning residence. So this review does not reflect exning residence. Like the space in the room and location was central. Mini kitchen and fridge in room as well as larger communal kitchen downstairs. Dawn who checked me in and out was welcoming and friendly. - As above I was meant to stay in exning and if I had missed Dawns call before checking in I would have gone to the wrong residence. However I got a bigger room at the alternative residence. There is parking at Chudleigh house but it's limited. Was summer and sunny so better black out curtains would be nice but it's rare to get in UK so a minor complaint. + Not a hotel but a flat/maisonette. Kitchen diner downstairs, bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Booked for a different property but had a phone call to ask if I would accept a move to another similar property. The caller confirmed it had a private bathroom, free parking and wifi so with main boxes ticked I agreed. Had some trouble finding the place as the post code took me to the wrong end of the little alley and there was a van blocking it. Eventually worked out where I should be and arrived. Access for parking was a bit tricky but once in it was a good spot directly outside my bedroom window. Very convenient for the town centre and a nice quiet spot. Overall a pretty good place to stay. - It was ok actually. I don't like paying for fancy facilities I am not going to use and an apartment type place works well for me for a change. There were a couple of minor issues like no blind on the bathroom window but not really overlooked but if i was an attractive young lady rather than a ugly old man that might have been a cause for embarrassment! + Fred the owner was on holiday but stayed in contact via WhatsApp. His niece who was there, was very nice and helpful. The use of the kitchen to eat my evening takeout was useful. The location was good for what I required and easy to find. The room was bright, light and airy, overlooking the garden.
− I found it very confusing trying to get into the house despite Fred’s WhatsApp instructions. The niece had to let me in. The room was big but sparsely furnished. The en-suite constantly smelled of backed up sewage. The sheet on the bed smelt clean but was very creased and crumpled. The mattress had no mattress protector and was heavily stained all over. The floor was laminated but was gritty. I had to wipe my feet before getting back into bed every time I got up to use the bathroom.
