+ The Gainsborough is easy to find, and the parking was excellent. The system for registering your number plate was simple and hassle-free. The bed was comfortable, tje bedding was crisp and white, the room was clean, and I had a good night's sleep, which was exactly what I needed. There was also a lovely selection of necessities displayed in the bathroom, which for a budget hotel, was a nice surprise, along with a couple of biscuits on the tea tray and a large fridge in the room. The biggest positive, without a doubt, was the staff. They were an absolute credit to the hotel. The member of staff who checked me in was exceptional. He noticed the room was cold and immediately went to get me a heater, leaving me a contact number incase I needed anything else. As a female travelling alone for work, I really appreciated how considerate he was in making sure I felt safe, comfortable and looked after. He had also taken the time to read my booking notes, noticed I had requested a quiet room as I was travelling for work so I had a late night and early start, and very kindly upgraded me to a suite. That level of personal attention and thoughtfulness really made a difference. Breakfast had a good selection, and the lovely member of staff preparing it took the time to come over and chat, he was another genuinely lovely person and a real credit to the hotel. I only had toast as it was early, but the breakfast looked hot, it was displayed well, and there was a good selection on the hot drinks machine too. - The building itself is beautiful but is clearly in need of some TLC and investment. The room I slept in was very basic, even for a suite, and was very cold on arrival. The heater provided helped, but the heating system should really be fixed. The suite needs a bit of love and the bathroom, whilst mainly clean, needs modernisation with the carpet removing and some areas addressed. The whole hotel just feels a little tired in places, which is a shame because the building has so much potential. The rooms and communal areas are spacious, and you can see that this could be a fantastic hotel with a little money, care and attention. + The hotel overall was a very pleasant surprise. The cost was very reasonable for what we received. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Room was big and the facilities therein were good. Very clean and warm. Didn't take advantage of the bar but it looked good and welcoming. The bed was comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Ample free parking on site, welcoming reception area and very quick and easy check in and out. We will use it again. OVERALL, A GREAT FIND. The hotel overall was a very pleasant surprise. - Nothing in particular. The hotel obviously go out of their way to cover most bases, even the stair lifts that would be very helpful to their more challenged customers was a plus point here. + Friendly staff, could not do enough for me. I had dinner and breakfast and the food was great at a reasonable price.
− A little dated and my room although very clean had a musty smell.
