- Gaining access to the property with the car wasn't the easiest. The bed wasn't comfortable and the pillows were too soft unfortunately. No internet access. - We booked this accommodation for 5 nights. On the 1st night of our stay, the host sent us a message on WhatsApp warning us that we may hear bats in the ceiling (we had noticed this in some past reviews when booking this accommodation and didn't mind). However, on the 2nd evening of our stay we returned to find dirt and debris strewn across the bed that had obviously fallen through slots in the ceiling. We were very concerned that the dirt included bat droppings, which can cause severe health issues. We spoke to the host about not being comfortable with the possibility of bat droppings falling onto our faces during the night, and received verbal agreement from them that we would be issued with a refund for the remaining 4 nights - at the time the host was very understanding and even offered to help us with alternate accommodation. After requesting a refund through Booking.com, we were told that the host was now refusing to honour the agreement to issue a refund, claiming that the debris from the bats on the bed posed no safety concerns. Additionally, the original message warning us about the bats had been deleted by the host. We also received an unprofessional message from the host telling us that we were the problem after they received some positive feedback from a different customer who obviously did not have the same experience that we did. I found this to be very underhanded and unnecessary. After escalating the situation with Booking.com, we received a 20% refund from them. They also confirmed that they will be investigating this accommodation as our case involves serious health and safety concerns. We were then told that the remaining 80% of the outstanding refund (€355) could only be refunded with permission from the host. After expressing our disappointment at how everything was handled to the host, we received an apology from them, saying that the owner of the accommodation (who was not present on the evening) is the one refusing to reimburse us.
