+ This was an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Picture a tiny village of just a handful of houses, with a large old house right in the middle – perhaps originally built as an inn, though I’m not sure. The host is an elderly French gentleman, a real gentleman in every sense: warm, charming and incredibly kind. He only speaks French, though, so don’t expect to get very far with English! The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, with modern bathrooms, but the house itself has somehow kept the atmosphere of another age. Staying here feels a little like stepping back more than a hundred years, into the France of the years before the First World War. We absolutely loved it – for us, that old-world atmosphere was a large part of its charm. Breakfast was excellent too, served by the host himself. Whenever anything ran out – bread or pastries, for example – he was there immediately with more. You can park your car in the courtyard, right in front of the house.
