+ It's a cheap and cheerful hotel. Dated, worn out in places, but you get what you pay for and it's good value. It's a cheap and cheerful hotel. Dated, worn out in places, but you get what you pay for and it's good value.
- The main light in the room didn't work. It was a fluorescent type that glows a little and then should kick in. It didn't, all it did was flash a few time and then stay dim. I complained but they were apparently fully booked and didn't have another room and there was no one there who could change a bulb! I thought it would be ok in the morning, but the room (34) was right against a hill and some trees, so it was dark until I left at 11. Obviously the fact that the window is covered by trees is the reason that the main light was normally always turned on and wore out. The light above the mirror in the bathroom has also failed in the same way. It would have been nice to perhaps be able to read or write something in comfort! Staff were nice enough, bed was old but acceptable for the money. The main light in the room didn't work. It was a fluorescent type that glows a little and then should kick in. It did...

+ This hotel could be great if the owners would spend some money on it. A full refurb is needed. It was formerly a really nice hotel back in the 1980s. Front desk staff are generally nice. I is a decent budget option if you can put up with some flaws. If you expect high quality you'd be better off going elsewhere.
− Mattresses need replacing. In the single rooms, the walls are too thin and some do not have enough light.

+ Room was clean, towels are provided and there's a nice tea / coffee tray.
− The TV remote control was missing. I reported this the next morning but this was not rectified so I couldn't watch TV during my 2 night stay. The kettle didn't turn off and had to be turned off at the mains switch. I reported this and the kettle was replaced the next day. The hotel has had issues with shower water pressure for years. In recent stays in rooms 34 to 36 this has been resolved and the showers there are now lovely. This is not the case in room 25 where the water is just a dribble when the shower head is at full height. It is just about acceptable when halfway up so as long as you don't mind showering crouching down then it's ok. Would be good to sort out the shower in all the rooms.
